An unexpected birthday (for magnus_bane)

It was never easy to figure out a gift for Magnus. His boyfriend might complain that Alec was difficult to buy for, but how could buying something for a simple Shadowhunter compare to trying to buy a gift for someone who could make whatever he wanted appear with the snap of his fingers. And, if Magnus wanted to actually buy something instead of resorting to magic, he had more money than Alec felt comfortable thinking about.

Despite what most people who knew about Shadowhunters thought, Nephilim did get paid for their work. Alec did get enough money to live off of and his family wasn't poor. He could afford to buy a decent present. Maybe. If it wasn't too extravagant.

Which wasn't exactly what he wanted to do... Maybe.

The whole situation was confusing, even to himself. When he realized that Magnus didn't even know when his own birthday was, Alec had decided that he would choose a date and for his lifetime at least, that would be Magnus' birthday. The only problem was... what to get Magnus.

The obvious choices seemed pointless and Alec knew his style was so different than Magnus' that he had no hope of picking out something his boyfriend would like. So eventually he realized that if a tangible gift wasn't right, then something they both could experience and remember. A memory instead of something that would fit in a box.

The tickets to the symphony weren't the best they'd had ever had, but he didn't have his boyfriend's connections. Even if he did, he didn't have the money to buy them since part of his gift was a new suit to wear for Magnus. Izzy had been thrilled to help him pick it out, taking him to a place that he was sure Magnus had told her about. He let everyone fuss over him, picking a style that Izzy said would make Magnus swoon like a teenage girl, and then got swatted for reminding her that she was a teenage girl. They argued over colors until they decided they'd found the perfect combination to bring out the blue of his eyes.

The day of the concert, he left a simple envelope with his lover's name written on it next to Magnus' favorite coffee mug. Inside were the tickets and a note that said when Alec would pick him up for their date. He dressed at the Institute before heading back to the apartment, picking up one last thing before waiting on the doorstep. Standing outside their apartment with a small bouquet of mixed flowers, Alec hoped his research on the Victorian flower messages was right and he was telling Magnus how much he loved him instead of something embarrassing and knocked on the door, somehow managing not to fidget while he waited for his date.

When Magnus found the note, the first thought had been slight concern, then sulking cause Alec wasn't there, and finally stunned happiness. Alec took the lead and planned a date for them. Not only was it a date, it was something that Alec likely would never have done for anyone but Magnus. He'd sat there a long moment, simply sliding his fingertips over the written letters with a small smile.

Then he'd torn through his closet like a whirlwind. Over half of his wardrobe was on the bed and floor and over other furniture. In the end, he'd gone out to buy a new suit tailor cut with a 1920s flair for being form fitting. He floundered on color, but ended up with a black suit with a gold toned vest and tie. If nothing else, he wouldn't embarrass Alec entirely.

He didn't go too far out with it if only because he wanted Alec comfortable as well. By the time he was done picking everything with Alec in mind, he laughed at himself. In all his centuries, he'd never been so... tangled up with the feelings for someone like this. Everything he picked and chose were with Alec in mind. Sadly, he didn't think about gold in regards to hunters, he did it thinking of how Alec liked his eyes.

Unfortunately, as he stared in the mirror after finishing the eyeliner, he paused and groaned. For being so careful and picking things with ultimate care, he forgot the significance of gold and black.

Flopping down in a chair in his living room, he sprawled. Alec would be there soon... and like clockwork, he heard the knock on the door. Shaking it off, he wondered if he could play ignorance as he opened the door. Magnus had expected a lot of things, all involving the gorgeous teen on his doorstep looking lovely as always... but Alec stood there in a suit that took Magnus breath away.

Staring a long moment, he forgot all about his own clothing and openly did a slow once over. "Alexander... you look... stunning." It took him a moment to even realize the flowers that suddenly had him grinning. "Are those for me?"

Stepping back, he grinned and beckoned his boyfriend inside.

It was stupid to be nervous. Alec told himself that over and over again as he waited for Magnus to open the door. It wasn't like this was their first date. It was special but there was no reason for his heart to race or for him to want to set down the flowers so he could fuss with his collar and cuffs. He knew he looked fine. He'd checked before he'd knocked. There was no fear that Magnus would change his mind. They had been together long enough that he knew his boyfriend loved him.

But no matter how much he told himself all those things, butterflies still fluttered wildly in his chest before Magnus opened the door.

He had arranged dates before but nothing like this. Magnus didn't even know it was his 'birthday'. Alec wasn't even sure if he should tell Magnus that part of the idea since it was mostly an excuse to have a day every year to show his boyfriend how much he loved him and have something normal that everyone else had.

His heart stuttered as Magnus opened the door, his thoughts vanishing when he caught sight of what his boyfriend was wearing. Magnus always looked gorgeous to him no matter what he wore but the suit was cut to emphasize everything physical that had caught Alec's eye when they'd first met, making him feel that rush of happiness and awe that had caused him to give Magnus that little, hopeful smile at the party. Someone as amazing as Magnus wanted him. That alone would have made him dizzy with happiness.

Then, the significance of the color crept through his mind. Black and gold...

Whether it was intentional or not, his boyfriend was wearing the Shadowhunter colors for marriage. For a moment, he couldn't speak... could barely think of anything except how much he wanted to see Magnus wearing those colors again as they promised to love each other through this life and the next. He wanted it so much that it made his chest ache, that longing reflected in his eyes.

And he was holding flowers that were a mundane wedding bouquet. Roses and orange blossoms and bright little blooms that were supposed to help tell Magnus how he felt about him. The florist had thought it was odd, then had been amused when he had explained what he'd wanted, telling her that the person he was giving them to had an interest in 'old fashioned' customs.

Suddenly, Alec wished he'd thought to buy a ring for Magnus even if he wasn't sure if his boyfriend would say yes.

When Magnus spoke, he realized he was staring, then realized his boyfriend had as well. Grinning shyly at the compliment, he offered the flowers to his love. "They are. You look..." For a moment, he tried to think of something that would describe how he felt. "Like you did when I realized how much I love you."

It might not be as flattering as 'stunning' but it seemed to fit. Seeing Magnus in gold and black was more than just beautiful, it made him want a lifetime with his boyfriend.

Stepping into the apartment, he offered Magnus the flowers, trying to think of something to say, but too caught up in those colors to stop himself from blurting out the question that kept tumbling through his mind. "Do you know what those colors mean to Shadowhunters?" His voice sounded soft and hopeful no matter how much he tried to keep his tone normal. Maybe Magnus wouldn't notice and if he did, maybe he would ignore it if he didn't really know how important black and gold was to the Nephilim.

Reaching out, he took the flowers lightly from his love's hands. His mind automatically ticked off the meaning of each type of flower was in the bouquet and he drew them to his face. Breathing them in, he felt his heart fluttering in his chest. "You know what the flowers mean, don't you?" Which made it all the more dreamlike to him.

For a moment he forgot what he was stressing about just before Alec knocked on the door. When Alec told him how he looked, his head lifted and he blinked at Alec as heat ran up into his cheeks lightly. In some strange, Alec way, that had to be the sweetest thing anyone ever said to him.

Reaching over, he slid his hand along the line of his jaw before curling around the back of his neck. Leaning in closer, he kissed Alec's lips softly and nuzzled his cheek. "I love you." He whispered the words and slid his hand down, curling softly under his tie as he backed away. It slipped through his fingertips finally when he turned to the counter and waved his hand so a vase appeared there.

Willing water into it, he stopped when Alec asked that question. Not moving a moment, he slid the flowers into the water. "I didn't think about it. Not at first. I picked the colors for another reason. I did remember though... when I was getting ready. And I worried... you know... if it would make you upset." Fingertips slid over the edge of the vase and he took a slow deep breath.

"But I don't want to take it back. Or change." Turning, he leaned back against the counter and smiled beautifully at the hunter. His hunter. "I want to think of it as a promise. That I will wear it again someday for you... for the reason it's intended. If and when you'll have me."

From Magnus' reaction, Alec decided that he had gotten the meanings of the flowers right. "I found an old book on the language of flowers and looked them up. The florist said it was unusual." Pausing, he looked at the flowers again. "Friendship, eternal love, passion, trust..." Smiling at his boyfriend, he reached out to touch one of the roses, running a finger over a soft petal. "The roses don't have thorns since that means love at first sight."

He wasn't sure of the compliment until he realized that he'd made his boyfriend blush. Leaning into Magnus' fingers, he hummed softly at the kiss, smiling against his lips. "I love you too." He almost began to follow Magnus to steal another kiss and then reminded himself that the flowers would be ruined if they didn't get them into water.

But when Magnus didn't answer his question right away, Alec began to wonder if maybe his boyfriend really hadn't known what those colors meant. Maybe he should pretend that it hadn't been important even if it had given him that hope. He still wasn't sure what to say when Magnus finally spoke. "I - uh - I'm not upset. I was..."

His voice trailed off as he realized what Magnus had said. A promise. He wanted Alec. Magnus wanted a lifetime with him. "You will?" Before he realized it, he was moving, pulling Magnus close and grinning brilliantly as he held his love. "I'll have you whenever you want to keep your promise. You have me for the rest my life."

"If you didn't look so emaculate and lovely right now? I'd tell you to lose the clothes and take me now." Both brows rose as Alec talked through the meanings and Magnus shivered just a little when the younger grazed the petals. He wanted to just reach out and drag Alec to bed right then and there. But they had a date... one he refused to miss. "You did perfect..."

Smiling back against those soft lips, he purred gently. "You are..." He even flailed a little with his hands as he'd let got of the tie. Finally he gave Alec a serious and adoring look. "Everything." Alec truly became everything to him. No doubt about it.

There stood a tenuous moment where he didn't know if Alec would like his 'proposal'. Breathing in slowly, she watched the teen he loved with every ounce of adoration he had for the younger. Only to finally breathe as Alec moved to pull him closer. Moving easily, he melded into the younger's arms and wrapped his own about him.

Turning his head, he kissed the curve of Alec's neck and breathed in his scent. "I am already yours. You could set a date for tomorrow and I'd be there to sweep you away." Shifting, he kissed along Alec's Jaw and purred happily. Moving one hand, he stared at all the rings he wore then slid one silver band with sapphires set in etched stars from his finger. Holding it up to Alec, he arched a brow. "Wear it to show my promise to you?" It was probably the most sedate piece of jewelry he owned... and he caught Alec's right hand and slid it on his ring finger.

Casting a spell, he modified the ring to fit on the younger's hand. It wouldn't magically resize like a nephilim ring... but it fit Alec now, and that was what mattered. "Would you wear it?"

"I didn't know you'd like getting flowers so much." His shyness eased as things settled into something that was normal for them. Getting dragged off to bed, or having Magnus wishing to do that, was familiar ground. Unlike not quite birthdays and giving Magnus wedding bouquets. "I'm glad you like them."

Smiling when he sensed Magnus flailing, Alec nipped his lover's lower lip, giving his boyfriend a loving smile. "You're everything to me as well."

Which was why he was almost shaking as he held Magnus, realizing that they both wanted a life together. Humming softly, he tipped his head for those kisses, he grinned when Magnus began to purr. Alec was about to speak when Magnus pulled away and offered him one of his rings. It was one of the few that he could have ever imagined himself wearing. One that he'd wondered if Magnus wore because it was set with sapphires.

Alec barely managed not to pull Magnus in for a kiss as soon as the ring settled on his finger, turning is lover's words over. "I want to wear it forever." Pulling Magnus close, he kissed him deeply, momentarily forgetting about the suit he'd been so careful of and their date. "Tomorrow." It was a rushed, instinctual decision, but those seemed to be the ones that worked out best for him. "I want to do it tomorrow."

"No one's been that attentive to details before." He looked at the blossoms quietly a moment, his eyes soft and far away for a moment. No one every put care into things for him. It always felt like people wanted to see what all Magnus could do for them. "Not for me." Turning to Alec, he beamed. "Until now."

Only it melted away as he groaned with the nip of his lower lip. He loved when Alec did that. And returning those words only melted the rest of him.

The ring reminded him of Alec. He honestly didn't remember where he got it, and merely knew what it was made of. It found it's way back into the collection of rings he wore for one simple reason. His blue eyed love. So it only made sense that it would end up on his love's finger this time and stayed there.

Arching a brow, he wrapped his arms about Alec's waist and kissed him back. He returned all of the love dedication to his lover, kissing him back and holding him completely against him. He only stopped when Alec said that one word that made him blink. "You really want to?" He grinned more and kissed the corner of his lips. "It's on the wrong finger, then darling... you need more it on the left hand for being my fiance." He teased softly and kissed under his ear whispering. "It looks good on you."

At first, it'd been difficult when he realized that there would be few first between them. At least ones that were both first... until he'd realized that somehow he had changed things for Magnus. It didn't matter that there had been others before him. They loved each other. That made everything they shared a first. Each day could be special, which was why Alec focused so much on those details.

But it still surprised Alec that no one else had thought to be considerate and put a little extra thought into a gift for Magnus, wanting every memory to be precious for him. "I like being the one that thinks of things like this."

It made him special. Important in a way that only Magnus had given him. Jace had believed in him, making him his parabatai but Magnus was the one that had encouraged him to step out of the shadows and be who he truly wanted to be. How could he not want to do something special for someone who had given him so much?

As Magnus enchanted the ring so that it wouldn't slip off, Alec felt like he was floating, hope and happiness burning brightly through him. He knew that Magnus could get him any ring either one of them could think of, but this one meant everything to him. Tt was a simple, clean design that was perfect for a Shadowhunter. Stars that reminded him of Magnus' magic and sapphires that had probably reminded his lover of Alec. MOre importantly, it was Magnus' and now his. The only one that might mean more to him was one that Magnus created.

Licking into his lover's mouth, he turned the kiss into a promise of all the things he stumbled over when he tried to put them into words, showing Magnus how much he loved him and all the detailed he wanted to share with him. Panting softly, he realized that Magnus looked almost stunned by what he'd said. For a moment, Alec thought that maybe he'd misunderstood and Magnus had been teasing. Then, his love asked that question and Alec began to grin.

"Yes, I do." He should probably consider his family's reaction but he would deal with that later. Magnus had offered and Alec wasn't going to refuse a chance to marry the person he loved. Slipping the ring off, he slid it onto the correct finger before catching Magnus' hand and threading his fingers between his lover's.

Tipping his head to give Magnus better access to his ear, he shivered slightly at that kiss. "It's perfect." Chuckling softly, he cupped his free hand around the back of Magnus' neck. "This isn't what I expected to happen tonight."

"I like that it's you that thinks of them." He did. He liked that Alec fit into his life in every way. He loved the way he felt when Alec was in the room with him. Everything about Alec made Magnus feel alive for the first time in centuries. "I love the way you make me feel."

Fingers softly explored the suit material and smiled over how the cut on Alec suited him or how the fabric felt smooth under his fingertips. Magnus reveled in the little additions of color that brought out Alec's eyes as well as the fact that his love wore it for him. It even went well with the impromptu engagement ring.

For all the marveling and beauty of the ring on Alec's finger, the kiss stood out bright and shining in his mind. Humming into it, he parted his lips and let Alec have his mouth. One hand cupped the younger's face and smoothed fingertips over his skin while the other lingered low on his spine near the rise of his ass. It occurred to him that leaving without hitting the bed will be a miracle in and of itself.

Especially when Alec had him melted into a puddle and purring deeply without inhibitions. Shivering in excitement, he kissed Alec again softly even after he pulled away. Grinning when Alec affirmed that he wanted to get married the next day, he stole another kiss and purred lower. "I do, too."

Golden eyes watched the ring move to the true marital ring finger before he delicately touched Alec's hair not sure if he was allowed to mess it up. "Even more so on your finger." He whispered that softly as he squeezed his hand smiling at the ring. Pulling Alec closer, he curled one arm about his waist and drew the hand in his to his chest. "Some of the best things in life happen when they are unexpected... like you and I."

Dipping his head down, he kissed along the frame of Alec's face and hummed a happy sound. "I think it's perfect." How or why didn't matter, just that it was. "Shall we go to the symphony now?"

"I want to be the one that thinks of them." He had finally come to terms with his jealousy, realizing that Magnus' reassurances were true and he was someone special to his love. Being the first or the only one wasn't as important as being the one who made Magnus feel like certain moments were the first time he'd experienced them. "I love you. I want to make you feel like that for as long as possible."

Smiling as Magnus' ran his fingers over the suit, he began nibbling lightly lightly at his boyfriend's lower lip. "I'm guessing that you like the new look." Which now included an engagement ring.

It was official. Everyone knew that they were together long term but now they'd be bound together, promising to love each other for a lifetime and more. Shivering as Magnus' purr vibrated through him, he considered dragging Magnus to the bedroom but realized that might ruin the date. And anticipation would make things better... or he'd tell himself that until he could drag Magnus off somewhere mostly private to celebrate.

Finding some discreet corner wouldn't be the kinkiest thing they'd done together.

Returning those kisses, he gently rubbed the back of his lover's neck. His siblings were going to kill him for getting engaged and not calling the immediately but he wasn't going to ruin their date by having Jace and Izzy bombard them with questions. "Do you want to be married a certain way or someplace special?"

In a way, those details didn't matter to Alec. He almost wished that they could have runes to bind them together but he'd accepted that as impossible once he'd realized he loved Magnus. As long as he had Magnus, it was the promises they made to each other that were important.

Grinning at his fiancee, he quickly stole a kiss. "We should." But he couldn't quite force himself to step away from Magnus. "This was supposed to be your birthday."

"You're doing a good job so far." Chuckling softly, he cupped his lover's face and kissed him sweetly. "As long as you're mine, I know I'll feel this way..." And he knew it was true.

Shivering at the nibbling, he aimed for the upper lip to suck on it gently while purring in happiness. "There is never a moment that I don't think you are amazingly gorgeous. But the ring and the suit whisper to me that you're mine and I get to share our names..." And maybe more than just their names.

"Hm..." He intoned that single sound gently before kissing him again only. "Well... I want it to be small. Maybe just a few people. You can meet my nearest and dearest friends that are like sisters to me." He fidgeted a little before asking softly. "I... I want you to have the runes for marriage. I know I can't have them inked on my skin..." Taking a deep breath, he spoke quieter. "I can have a pendant thought..."

Without another thought, he kissed Alec again before he could pull away after that kiss. Smiling to himself and against Alec's lips, he hugged his lover to him. He nearly let go finally when Alec said those words.

Stopping, he blinked a few times before grinning softly. "My birthday?" Taking Alec's now ringed hand, he kissed his knuckles softly. "Since I don't know it?" The flutter of happiness hit him again as he ended up wrapping Alec up in his arms again. "You are too good for me..." He softly said the words into his hair as he nuzzled the younger lovingly. "God, Alec... what you do to me..."

He sighed and kissed raven locks before breathing those three words into his love's hair. "I love you. More than anything."

"I'll be yours forever, Magnus." And now anyone who saw him would know that his heart belonged to his boyfriend... his fiancee. "So you'll feel like that for a long time."

The comment about the suit and ring caused him to grin. "Izzy helped with the suit. She said she'd find the perfect color." it was something that was beyond him, but from the way Magnus looked at him even before the proposal, Alec knew she'd gotten it right. "You want my name?" In the back of his mind, he could imagine some of the Clave's outrage over that, especially his fathers, but Alec didn't care. Everyone knew he loved Magnus and that nothing would sway him into changing his mind about his relationship with him.

The grin softened to a gentle smile as Magnus offered to let him meet his friends. "I want to meet them. I'd like Izzy and Jace to be there. Maybe my mother." That he wasn't as sure of, knowing if his mother attended, his father might try to ruin things. But they'd find a way to work around that.

Brushing his fingers along Magnus' jaw, he kissed his fiancee softly. "I want a marriage rune. It doesn't matter if you can't have one on your skin. You have my heart and that's what the rune signifies. And if you have a pendant, the meaning of the bond is there which is all we need."

Holding Magnus close, he felt his lover's surprise and how it turned to happiness even before Magnus kissed his hand. "Everyone deserves a happy birthday." Alec expected people to forget his, but he always made sure that others had something special for those he cared about. "I love you too." Sighing softly, he almost wanted to forget about the symphony but it was Magnus' birthday. "We'd better go if we don't want to be late."

"I can't wait." Forever looked a whole lot better. If nothing else, he would figure out how to keep Alec for his eternity... or give it up to live just one with him.

Trailing his fingers over Alec's cheek, he grinned. "Your sister is certain in tune with fashion. And the color is perfect... but I want you to know you could wear anything and you always look amazing to me." Then he paused as Alec asked him that question. Smiling softer and more with move, he moved both hands to cup Alec's face. "I would love to be a Lightwood... or even Bane-Lightwood." Leaning in, he brushed their lips softly. "Never changed my name before... never been married before. Only time I've ever wanted to be..."

Smoothing his thumbs over Alec's cheeks, he soaked in his love's warmth and just made sure to remember every little detail of his beautiful face. "Then we have out guest list." Kissing Alec softly, he let his hands drift down to his neck lovingly cupping it.

"Then that's what we'll exchange. And if you want to get me a ring later... then we will. But I want that pendant. I want to share that part of you just like I want to share your name. It's all we need." Rubbing his nose to Alec's softly, he purred quietly.

He was too happy. Like walking on air. "We should..." But he didn't want to let Alec go either.

Even if the compliment was directed at Izzy and himself, Alec beamed at those words, proud that his sister had been right about the suit. He was relieved that Magnus didn't care about his clothes, but he was pleased that he had impressed his lover. "I know I could have worn anything, but I wanted to please you."

Leaning into the hands on his face, Alec smiled softly at the idea of Magnus having his name. "I like either option." His expression turned shy before he caught one of Magnus' hands and kissed the palm. "I'm the first one you wanted to marry?" It seemed impossible, but maybe warlocks didn't marry. Which meant that he was special, important enough for Magnus to promise a part of his life to Alec alone.

"We do. We'll get them together tomorrow and get married." It probably wouldn't be that simple, but he knew that they'd do everything possible to make it happen.

Humming softly, he wrapped his arms around Magnus' waist, leaning against his love. "Can I keep the ring you gave me tonight even if we have the runes? I'm getting attached to it." He'd give it back if Magnus wished, but Alec had always liked it and now it symbolized all the things he'd secretly hoped for. "I'll get you the pendant. I'm sure we can find someone who can make one."

Kissing Magnus' chin, he told himself he had to step away but he couldn't. Not yet. "You don't want to go?" He wouldn't mind if Magnus said he wanted to cancel if it meant that they'd celebrate their engagement in other ways.

Magnus felt almost... like he'd explode with the feelings rushing through him. Everything Alec did always sent his mind into a whirl of fluttering butterflies and happiness. "You look amazing tonight." And every night... but he wanted Alec to know how much his effort meant to him. "Just proves you can be irresistible in any kind of clothing."

Kissing over Alec's cheek, he sighed happily. "I do too. But I only want to hyphenate it if you want to take my name." His voice was oddly shy at that. His name had been a self-imposed punishment of sorts... he didn't want to force that on Alec. Not even a little bit... but that didn't mean Alec might actually want it... "Never wanted to before you..." Too many left him before they could age too much, marriage made that close to impossible. And sometimes he wanted to run away... this time... he didn't want either to be able to run.

"Sounds like a plan... do you think your mother would want to come?" Maryse knew him. They had no reason to like each other at all... except that he felt fondness for her in the respect that her son was the love of his life... and she tolerated him for Alec. Sadly... he only saw Robert Lightwood as a donor in some ways. All the good in Alec came naturally... or from his mother. Maryse may have been a hard woman... but she protected her children with all the ferocity of a mother bear.

"You may keep it." Smiling softly, he stole another soft kiss. "I want us to have both. Everything..." Nuzzling his hair gently, he made sure not to muss it up too much. "I know we will... I have a lot of connections."

Humming a happy sound for that kiss, he let out a sigh. "I want to go. But I also don't want to let you go either. It's a very hard choice..."

"So do you." Even if Magnus hadn't accidentally worn wedding colors, Alec would have thought he looked amazing. But now the gold meant more to him than just bringing out the color of his boyfriend's eyes. Soon they'd be wearing the color for the proper reason. Laughing softly at the comment about his clothes he lightly nipped Magnus' lip. "I'll remind you of that the next time you try to throw out one of my sweaters."

It didn't happen often and Alec needed to be reminded to get rid of the ones that were beyond salvaging but that didn't mean he wouldn't tease Magnus about it.

Noticing the change in Magnus' tone, Alec brushed his lips against his love's cheek. "I want your name. It's part of who you are so I want to share that." He knew that Magnus' past had its dark moments, but they couldn't be erased without destroying who Magnus was. It would be wrong to try to wipe it away by taking his name away from him. And Alec knew that he wanted to show his fiancee that he was okay with both the good and the bad from Magnus' life. Taking his love's name would be part of that. "I never thought I'd marry so this is new for both of us.

"I'd like for her to come so we should ask." It would hurt if she didn't but it was something Alec was ready to accept. But she'd been civil when she'd met Magnus and she hadn't tried to stop him from dating Magnus so maybe she would attend.

Holding Magnus close, he hummed softly as his lover nuzzled him. "I want everything with you." Which included both the symphony and time with his fiancee. "We can make out at the symphony." It wasn't something he should suggest but why not take advantage of having a boyfriend with magic when they'd just gotten engaged?

Preening a little at that compliment, he stole another kiss and grinned against Alec's lips. "I wouldn't dare throw it out. I give the ones that are about to beg for mercy and retirement to the Chairman. He makes good use of them." Nipping Alec's lip, he winked at him. "You wouldn't begrudge our child of warmth and comfort, would you?"

Magnus believed that Alec would want his name. Everything told him he would. But when Alec actually said he wanted it, Magnus felt a surge of warmth that had him wrapping Alec up in a suffocating hug. Burying his face in Alec's neck, the purring rumbled in his chest and through the both of them. "You are... the other part of me... everything the makes me whole. How could I not want to marry you?"

Kissing his neck softly, he leaned back and kissed the tip of his nose. "I believe... that she will surprise you. I will be surprised if she lets you down."

Leaning into his lover's hold, he closed his eyes and let out a long happy sigh of content. "I want the same." But then the suggestion had Magnus snickering against his love's hair. "I do believe I'm a bad influence on you. And I love that." Moving his arms away, he caught Alec's hands and pulled him to the door. "I'll raise the bar and even get a taxi and make out with you there as well. Deal?"

"Our child?" There was a hint of laughter in his voice even as he gave Magnus a skeptical look. He had a feeling he knew what happened to those sweaters and hoodies and he doubted that the Chairman ever saw them except in the laundry basket. Another kitten who liked to lounge around in Alec's things was probably stealing them. "No, I won't take that away from whoever wants my old sweaters."

His teasing faded as he held Magnus close, knowing that he'd done something important for Magnus that no one else had. Nuzzling at Magnus' hair, he shivered at the purr. "We make each other better." It was something he'd believed in since the first time they'd shared strength with each other even if he hadn't been ready to admit it until later. "I think she'll come." Or he hoped his mother would.

Biting back a protest when Magnus pulled away, he grinned at the idea of Magnus being a bad influence. "I think it's the other way around. I started the exhibitionist tendencies." But he couldn't protest too much if Magnus was willing to make out with him in the cab. Following his lover, he threaded his fingers between Magnus'. "You'll make sure the drive won't see?"

"Well.. he's not just mine anymore. He seems to like you more anyway." Making a face, he really didn't care. In fact, he loved that the Chairman loved Alec so much. "Oh? Is that a promise?" Because he did like curling up in Alec's sweaters quite a bit. They made him feel safe and warm as his lover's scent surrounded him.

"That we do." He purred the words softly and moved into the nuzzling happily. "I don't think I can say 'I love you' nearly enough." The words were softly as he managed to pry away and pull his lover toward the door. "You'll only get married once." Grinning just a little, he leaned in to kiss his nose. "I think she will."

"Mm... you fueled a fire that was long there in me." Twining the fingers of their hands together, he drew his lover out of the apartment, sliding the tickets into Alec's jacket as he used magic to close and lock the door behind them. "I will never let anyone see the things I do to you." Winking at him, he walked his lover down the stairs and to the street below, waving for a cab.

Squeezing his love's hand he kissed his cheek. "Sound like a plan then?" Golden cat eyes stayed on Alec as he watched his lover's face, only noting the cab that pulled up to the curb.

"He doesn't like me more." The protest didn't sound quite as confident as Alec liked. The Chairmen did spend as much time as he could curled up with Alec. Or curled up next to him since Magnus had the tendency to be catlike and sprawl on him whenever possible. But he did seem to be right about the his clothes. "It is. Whichever of the kittens in the apartment want my sweaters can have them."

"You say it enough and when you don't, I still know it's true." He just hoped that he said it enough to help Magnus with the terrible things that had happened in the past. "I only want to marry once unless we're renewing our vows." In that he seemed to take after his Herondale relatives. Once he had given his heart to Magnus, Alec knew that there would be no one else for him... and that Magnus wouldn't mind throwing another party in a few years to celebrate their marriage.

Smiling at the kiss to his nose, he suddenly felt shy. "I hope she will. I want her there." She had supported Alec in her own way. If she could accept that this was what made him happy, he wanted his mother there.

"The perks of dating a warlock." Although, Alec wasn't sure if he would have cared if anyone saw them. Maybe he wouldn't go quite as far knowing they might have a witness as they began celebrating their engagement but he would have kissed Magnus even if the driver could see everything.

When the cab stopped, he reluctantly pulled away to open the door for Magnus. "It does. And when we get home..." They'd celebrate properly and eventually Alec would text his siblings to tell them not to make plans for tomorrow.

"Lies. But it's okay because it's you. If he suddenly liked your parabatai more, then I would disown him." Nodding sagely, he couldn't keep the serious look for long and laughed lightly. His eyes softened infinitely as Alec said any kitten could run off with his sweaters. "Mm... good to know... you have this faded black soft hoodie that's way too big for you that actually reaches my thighs... one of the kittens is planning to wear that and only that to welcome you home one day."

Purring the words, he smiled when Alec reassured him he could say he loved him all he wanted. That meant a lot to him. He never had a relationship that felt that easy to fit into... to feel that relaxed in sharing his love and feelings. "I do plan to renew our vows every decade or so." He wanted this. Wanted Alec and all the sappy mundane love and happiness you read about in romances and poetry. He craved that with Alec like a starving man.

"I will support you and do anything I need to do... I'm here..." He whispered the words against Alec's cheek before kissing there gently.

Only to chuckle at the comment about perks in dating his kind. Winking at his lover, he pulled his hand to his lips and kissed his knuckles. "Indeed... and I plan to use every trick I know to try everything with you."

Moving to the open door, he slid into the cab and quietly told the driver where to take them. Then he slipped his finger along the glass separating front and back with a quick spell before looking at Alec with a smirk. "As far as he's concerned we are just a cute couple cuddled together in happy silence as of this moment. And when we get home.. I don't plan on letting you go for a long while..."

"The last time Jace visited, the Chairman threw up on his shoe." It wasn't something to be proud of but he had the feeling that Magnus would be thrilled over what their 'child' had done. He'd probably give the Chairman extra cat snacks for it.

For a moment, Alec forgot about cats and the symphony, imagining Magnus in his hoodie, waiting for him to come home. The thought almost had him dragging his lover close for another kiss but they were supposed to be going on a date. "Will my kitten wear it soon?"

He had the feeling that after the wedding, no one would see them for days. Maybe even weeks. They deserved a honeymoon. A long, quiet one with only minimal clothing.

"Some vows I'll renew every day." There were some words that he knew Magnus needed and he promised himself that he'd say them as often as possible so Magnus would never doubt how Alec felt about him.

Desire hummed through him as Magnus kissed his knuckles and they got into the cab, knowing how creative his lover could be when he decided to be. As he watched Magnus create the spell, he began to grin as his fiancee described the spell before almost pouncing Magnus against the seat, not caring how either one of them looked when they got out of the taxi. Magnus' magic would fix it.

Even as part of him wanted to tear Magnus' clothes off, he kept his hands gentle as he kissed his love, licking into his mouth as his fingers brushed over Magnus' chest, moving lower. Humming softly into the kiss, he tried to show his fiancee how truly happy he was until he had to pull away slightly to catch his breath. "How far do you want...?"

“I was so proud I thought I might burst at the seams.” Smirking slowly, he touched his nose to Alec’s just for a moment. Maybe he should have pretended to be upset or show a little remorse, but he really didn’t. Jace annoyed him like no one else ever had. Oh… except Raphael. He really annoyed him. Really.

But those thoughts evaporated as he grinned smugly as Alec’s mind took another track at the suggestion of wearing his hoodie. “Your kitten will make sure it happens very soon.” That went first on his list for later when he wanted to tackle Alec… when he didn’t already want to peel the suit off of his lover and now fiancé.

His mind slowed and warmed as Alec promised to renew some vows daily. He couldn’t help but stop and cup his lover’s face in his hands. Kissing him softly, he purred against those lips. “I will do the same… starting by telling you that I will love you more and more every day. There is no one else out there for me… I know that without a doubt.”

Which made the sudden rush of Alec against him in the cab that much more desperate for more. Tumbling down onto the seat beneath his lover, he grinned and shifted so the younger could nestle between his legs. If the cab driver could see them, they would be a mess of legs tangled together across his back seat. Not that he cared…

All he knew was that when Alec asked how far after that deep kiss, Magnus thought he might melt into the seat. Moaning softly, he tangled his fingers into Alec’s hair. The entire scenario had him hardened in the already too tight pants. “Can… you… would you…” Why he hesitated to ask, he didn’t know, but his fingers moved to trace Alec’s lips. “I promise to return the favor if you’ll use your mouth right now…” Whether in the cab or in the symphony… he would return the favor. He guaranteed that.

All the doubts that Alec had had before seemed foolish as Magnus kissed him and said that he loved him. He'd been afraid before of how the past migth hurt them or of the pain the future might bring but now Alec knew that they would be together for a lifetime and that was enough. "I love you too. My heart will always be yours."

As he kissed Magnus, he forgot that there was anyone else there, knowing that his lover would make sure that no one saw. If dating a warlock had its advantages, so did dating a warlock who was jealous about no one else seeing Alec in compromising situations. Breaking the kiss, he panted softly, smiling against Magnus' fingers when his lover hesitated to ask for what he wanted. Once Alec had gotten over his shyness, Magnus usually asked for what he wanted.

Tracing his fingers over Magnus' arousal, Alec kissed his boyfriend's fingers, swiping his tongue lightly over the tips before pulling away so he could unbutton Magnus' slacks. "You don't have to return the favor. I want to do this for you." But eve as he spoke, he couldn't help shivering as he thought of what it'd be like if Magnus did go through with his promise in the middle of the symphony. "Would you... during the concert?"

Magnus couldn't help but cup Alec's head in his hands lovingly. "My heart and I am yours." Softly spoken, he kept his fingers in Alec's hair even as he moved down his body after that kiss. Humming a happy sound of delight, he relaxed and trembled with delight for being so close to Alec.

His fingers curled as Alec licked them and he looked down at his lover with pupils blown with desire. "I want to..." His voice was breathless as he replied only shimmy his hips just a little so his slacks would slide down for his lover.

A grin pulled at his lips however at that request. "I was hoping you'd ask that... and yes... I will."

"And I'm yours." It felt like Alec couldn't say it enough. He knew that Magnus had been hurt in the past and he liked to believe that if he told his fiancee those words enough, told him that he loved him, that maybe he could ease some of the pain that Magnus had been carrying for years.

Leaning into those hands for a moment, enjoying the feeling of Magnus' fingers in his hair before he focused on pleasing his love. As Magnus agreed to 'return the favor' during the symphony, he had to fight back a whimper as desire shivered through him like lightening.

Magnus teasing and using his mouth on him while they were surrounded by the audience... and the music...

He hadn't realized how much he wanted that to happen until he saw Magnus grin. Yes, Magnus had to do that sometime. Hopefully many times in the future.

Pushing down Magnus' slacks enough that he could ease his arousal free, Alec kissed the head, flicking his tongue lightly to tease his lover. He wished ha had more time to tease but the glamour would only do so much and eventually they would arrive at the symphony. "You can move if you want."

Magnus was always careful but sometimes, like now, Alec wouldn't mind if he was a little less careful. Watching Magnus through his lashes, he hummed softly before taking his lover deeper, waiting a few moments to see how Magnus reacted before deciding how quickly things should go.

Magnus grinned more as Alec confirmed that he was just as much his. It always sent a thrill of excitement when Alec said it so candidly with open honesty. Smiling, his eyes half closed so he could keep gold eyes on him through a curtain of dark lashes.

Parting his legs more so Alec could settle there easily, he reached out to slip his fingers into his hair. A gasp escaped as cool air slid over his now very hard and wanting erection making him shiver. Closing his eyes a little moan left him as Alec kissed and licked the head. And there were times when he liked to feel Magnus let go, showing Alec how much he wanted him.

When Magnus bucked beneath him, Alec moaned around his length, the sound muted but he knew that it would be felt by his lover. Looking up at Magnus, he tried to silently tell him that it was all right even as he took him as deep as he could, trying everything he knew that would drive Magnus crazy so that his fiancee would lose control.

Finally he nodded his head. He would try to let go. Not to a point he might hurt Alec, but let go and enjoy it. He wanted to enjoy what Alec gave him so freely. Slipping his fingers through Alec's hair, he lovingly cradled the younger man's head in them.

Alec could pull away with this grip. He always wanted Alec to have that option when he made a conscious decision to be a little rougher. And honestly, even if he hadn't... the way Alec swallowed him down or even the way he looked at him through his lashes... Magnus knew that taking his mouth became inevitable.
