Tonight was a night to celebrate their victory and think fondly of those who were lost. Both Valentine and Sebastian were dead and for the first time that Alec knew of, Downworlders and Nephilim had fought together. They had even been allowed to remain in the city as alliances were created. It was a chance for new beginnings, something Alec hadn't realized he needed until he'd introduced Magnus to his parents.

His mother was polite and didn't seem surprised by his preferences. His choice of boyfriends and that very public kiss might have been more of a shock, but at least Magnus hasn't dressed in one of his usual party outfits for the meeting. Robert... That reaction hadn't really surprised him. It hurt, but it was expected and Alec knew that it'd be a long time before his father was okay with his choices, if he ever was.

But Alec refused to let that bother him. Not when this was supposed to be a happy time for them all, remembering those lost fondly and saving tears for later. The grief would eventually, not that it completely left him, but for now he wanted to share Idris with Magnus. He hadn't spent much time in Alicante, or the countryside nearby, but he knew of a quiet spot where they'd be away from the party and be able to see the stars. And Magnus had probably seen less of Idris than Alec had.

When he was sure that his family wouldn't notice, Alec caught his boyfriend's hand, leading Magnus away from the lights and the questions, guiding him through the twisted streets until they were away from the city and anyone that might interrupt.

Magnus hated wars and battles. He hated fighting and getting tangled up in the business of the Nephilim. But it seemed he couldn't keep from getting tangled in it. Will Herondale pulled him in with friendship and care... Alec... Alec brought him in because all he could think about was keeping the hunter safe. How did he fall so deeply in love with the Lightwood? A Lightwood... that irony still hit him with so much humor.

He wouldn't take it back. No, he fell hard for the teen from the beginning... and then his world went off axis when the hunter kissed him in the assembly hall. It gave him that push and desire to fight this war he didn't want with zeal and determination. Alec loved him enough to show the world. Magnus had to see it through to the end for that same reason.

Lifting his hand, he looked at the fading scar of the alliance rune and angled his head. That simple binding rune had made him feel more connected to life than anything else had... because for one blinding moment, he felt Alec entirely about him. Connected in ways he never thought he could be connected. He found himself looking from the mark to his young love often trying not to be noticed by the Lightwood family.

It was bad enough his father looked cold as ice over it all, he didn't need to make things worse for Alec by throwing in open PDA. Which was likely why he looked so surprised when Alec took his hand and guided him away. Following without a word, he slipped his fingers through the younger man's and pressed closer to his side. And when far enough away, he lifted his love's hand and kissed the back of it softly.

"Have I mentioned lately how amazingly brave you are?" Smiling slowly, he tipped his head to look down at the hunter. "Or that I love you? Or perhaps that you have to be the first to sweep me off my feet like that?" Alec had. He'd swept Magnus away and he felt like he could and would swear perfect love and fealty to him for eternity.

As they moved away from the noise and activity of the party, Alec's thought settled on the nervous elation he'd felt when Magnus had agreed to let him mark him. After making the promise to introduce him to his parents, Alec had been sure his boyfriend would say yes, but part of him had been afraid. Magnus had been hurt by all the secrecy... they both had. He'd been a coward, hiding who he was and, worse, hiding his true feeling from the person he loved most.

If Jace hadn't given him that mental shake by offering to let him kiss him and Clary hadn't created that rune...

Then he might not have taken a chance and asked Magnus to fight beside him even if there was no one else he wanted to be at his side. He never would have experienced that bright elation that had accompanied that mark, feeling like a Magnus' magic sparks were running through his veins. Part of him wondered if that was what being a warlock felt like or if it'd been because he'd been bound to the person he loved. Maybe it'd been a combination of both.

Most of the night, he'd run his fingers along the rune, glancing at Magnus and occasionally seeing his boyfriend looking at the scar. It made him wonder if despite Clary's claims, the mark had hurt Magnus.

He was about to ask when Magnus kissed the back of his hand, pulling him out of his thoughts to focus on the present. A hint of those sparks tingled along his skin that had nothing to do with the alliance rune.

"I'm not brave, Magnus. If I was, I would have told them all sooner." That would have been a quieter way to let his parents know he was gay and dating a Downworlder, but he had to admit, kissing Magnus in front of everyone did have a dramatic flair that his boyfriend hopefully would appreciate.

"I love you too." Looking up to meet those golden eyes, he tugged Magnus closer so he could kiss him softly. "I don't know how I swept you off yoru feet, but I'm glad I did."

"If you'd told them sooner... it wouldn't have been such a spectacular feat. Nor as flattering and ground shaking for me..." His eyes sparked with brilliant light from the stars in the sky as he squeezed Alec's hand. "I can't say anyone has every made any declaration to me that powerful. You amaze me... and yes, Alec. You're brave."

Lifting that hand, he curled the arm about his neck and reached the other out to softly cup Alec's hip as he pulled him against him. He'd be lying if he didn't see the beauty in the quiet and stars where they were. Which was why he caught Alec's other hand as they kiss to lift to his neck with the other. Kissing those soft lips a second time, both hands lowered to rest on the hunter's hips.

"I don't think you needed to be anymore than yourself to sweep me off your feet. If you did more, I'd be lost to the world of reality..." Winking at his love, he slowly started to make them sway. Little by little he got the hunter to dance with him, building up the movement until he worked Alec to lean against him as they moved.

"How often... do you think we can use that rune?" His smiled broadened just a little as he lowered his head to touch their foreheads. "Because I want to feel that again... you connected to me." An intimate feeling he already missed.

"It really meant that much to you?" When he'd pulled Magnus close for that kiss, he hadn't been thinking of making an impression or proving himself to his boyfriend. His thoughts had centered on Magnus, needing to show him that he loved him. The fact that they'd had an audience hadn't occurred to him. At least not in a way that mattered.

Even if that hadn't been his intention, a thrill of pride ran through him at Magnus' words. He still didn't think he was brave or amazing - he'd done what was needed during the battle and he couldn't think of the kiss as bravery - but he liked the idea that he was the first to prove themselves in such a way for Magnus. Magnus was his first love and in some way he was a first as well. "I didn't really think of it that way. I just needed you to know how much I love you."

Humming softly at the kiss, he moved closer, arms sliding around Magnus' neck. Everything felt more vivid now that there were no more secrets, the guilt and fear leaving him so that he could enjoy each moment with his love. "I think it's the other way around. If you hadn't swept me off my feet, I never would have dared to ask you out."

As they began to dance, Alec smiled at his love, a faint flush crept across his face as he thought of how it'd felt to be bound to Magnus. "I've never felt that close to anyone before." Not even the parabatai rune had given him that sort of connection to another. "The magic's new so none of us know but other marks can be used regularly without harm."

The Alliance rune might be different but he couldn't believe they'd be given a rune to bind Shadowhunters to Downworlders and it harm the ones using it. "I think it's like the others. Overusing it could possibly cause harm, but if we were careful."

Tipping his head, he kissed along Magnus' jaw to press his lips to the spot beneath his ear. "I want that too. I want to be part of you." That's was the only way he could describe it. Linked body and soul to the person he loved most.

"Do you really honestly think that it wouldn't?" The idea that Alec could think something so amazing could mean so little just blew his mind. Sliding his hand around to press to the younger's lower back, he dipped his head down and kissed his neck gently.

His eyes fell closed at those words. "All I could think... was how I could lose you when I only just found you. I was scared. I am no hero. I don't run into battle. But I would for you." Lifting his head, he shifted to meet Alec's eyes again. "Then you kissed me... in front of everyone. And I felt like for once in my life I could brave anything at all. For you. Because of you."

Maybe it was cheesy and grandiose to say that, but it rang true. It carried all his emotions and truest feelings in that mere moment that changed something inside of him. "However... I'd love to hear what I said or did to sweep you off your feet... so I can keep doing it."

The arm not wrapped about the lithe waist rose and softly carded through Alec's hair. Smiling warmly, he tipped the younger's head and claimed his lips in a soft kiss. "I've never really felt connected to anyone before... So... I'd like to try it again. If we can. I feel like... it enhanced something between us as well."

A shiver ran down his spine as Alec kissed at his jaw. Then his breath hitched as Alec found that spot behind his ear. "Mm..." He nearly purred in happiness as he danced with his love holding him close. Playing with the inky dark strands, he turned his head to kiss into it. "I love you, Alexander Lightwood."

Alec knew that the kiss was important. He had done it in front of what basically was his entire world. Every Shadowhunter in Idris had seen it or had heard of it... well, every one of them that was curious about one barely of age Nephilim had done. But meaning was tricky with Magnus sometimes. He was older than Alec had first realized and sometimes it seemed like Magnus had seen and done everything possible.

The idea that he was the first to show Magnus how important and loved he was... that was a concept that Alec was only starting to comprehend. Humming softly as Magnus kissed his neck, he paused for a moment, trying to explain what he had thought. "I knew it was special, but I didn't know..." Laughing softly, he gave up on trying to find the words for something that was a jumble of emotion. "I like knowing that it meant so much to you." That he meant so much to Magnus.

Meeting those golden golden eyes, he began to gently play with the hair at the back of Magnus' neck. Magnus' words probably would have seen silly in any other context, but Alec knew they were heartfelt. Magnus wasn't a Shadowhunter but he still fought beside them. All because of Alec. And he'd fought harder during the battle because he needed to protect Magnus so they both could go home safe.

"Being scared and still fighting makes you a hero, Magnus. I don't like fighting, but I need to protect the ones I love. I fought harder with you beside me because I wasn't going to lose you." Tipping his head, he kissed his love gently. "Even without the rune, you make me better."

Smiling at Magnus wanting to know what had made him fall for him, Alec tried to think of the one moment, then realized it'd been dozens of things that had caused him to give Magnus his heart. The way Magnus looked at him when they'd first met. Magnus staying with him after healing him so he wasn't alone. How Magnus hadn't laugh when Alec didn't know how to ask someone out and not commenting how he hadn't known how to act on a date. All that and more. "Everything about you swept me off my feet."

Closing his eyes as his boyfriend's fingers brushed through his hair, he nipped at Magnus' lips. "I felt that too. We can try it again and see if it works." He couldn't think of any other way to learn about the new magic Clary had created.

That shiver caused him to grin against Magnus' neck before kissing that spot again, happiness banishing any thoughts that didn't focus on his love. "I love you, Magnus Bane."

"It meant the world to me, Alec." His heart skittered and fluttered at the laugh like it always did when Alec laughed. The way his features lit up and his eyes seemed to just glow in amusement. Reaching up, he drew his fingertips over the line of his love's face tracing the gorgeous features reverently.

Arching slightly at the fingers in his hair, his lashes lowered but not all the way. No, he couldn't close his eyes when Alec's eyes were on his. It didn't stop him from shivering in delight though. "A hero does it for the many... I only did it for you." His own lips upturned at Alec's declaration and he bent closer to kiss his lips softly. "You make me better as well."

Dancing or not, Magnus drew Alec completely against him inhibiting their movement to just a slow sway. Kissing his lips, he cupped the younger's face and licked slowly into his mouth wanting to just drink the words out of him and savor the taste. Alec could be so honest... so beautifully amazing. When he finally released his lips, he whispered against them hotly. "Alec... go away with me? Just you and me? We can go wherever you like. Anywhere... and go back whenever you ask."

His breath hitched at the nip and he nearly kissed him for it if Alec weren't talking. When he finished he simply nodded his head and kissed him sweetly before smiling more. "Maybe while we're on our practice honeymoon we can try it and see?"

Nuzzling his boyfriend's fingers, he felt lighter than he had in years. There was no reason to hide. The Clave knew. His parents knew. He could be happy without fear that someone would find out and ruin things for the two of them. "I did to me too. I don't have to be afraid anymore."

It might not have been his intention when he pulled Magnus in for that kiss, but it was an unexpected gift that that he was grateful for.

Watching Magnus react to him playing with his hair, Alec expected his boyfriend to begin to purr. But a kiss was a better reaction that he returned with soft adoration. "I still think you're a hero." Even if Magnus had only fought to protect him, he'd still walked onto the battlefield when most people would have run away.

Leaning into the hands on his face, he moaned softly as Magnus tasted him. The gentle sway stilled as everything except his boyfriend was forgotten. Magnus could always distract him with a look or a smile, but when he focused on Alec like this, he knew that his feelings for Magnus were returned completely. Sparks shivered down his spine as he returned the kiss, happiness and desire mixing together so that it took a moment for those words to register.

Panting softly, he opened his eyes to look into those golden eyes. Magnus was everything he'd always wanted, but had never dared to think of until Jace had dragged him to that party. And now Magnus was offering him more... Something he wouldn't have asked for but now that it was put into words he wanted desperately. Time alone with Magnus, going wherever they wanted, seeing things that he'd only read about. "Yes. Wherever we want." Until someone forced him to come home since Alec doubted he'd ever want to leave Magnus' side.

Then the rest of his boyfriend's suggestion connected. "Honeymoon?" For a moment, he could only stare before beginning to grin. Even if it was only a 'practice honeymoon' the intent was there. Magnus wanted to be with him for the rest of their lives. "We'll try it whenever you want."

"It won't magically get easier... but you'll never have to pretend to be someone else now. I'm only sorry for other obstacles you'll have to face." Smoothing his love's hair back, he smiled at him gently. "But I'll walk with you through this. I promise."

Magnus always ended up smiling into the young hunter's lips. He loved the taste and mere feel of the man in his arms and would do anything for him. Anything at all. "I can live with being your hero, Alec... just yours." He didn't have it in him to be more... but that was enough. He could be anything for Alec. He knew that. Even if it scared him.

Licking his own lips to chase Alec's taste on them, he couldn't stop the soft purr that rose in his chest. Never had he felt this happy and warm in his life before. It felt amazing and like none other. "Good. Because practice makes perfect for a real honeymoon."

Grinning like a cheshire cat, his arms moved to wrap around Alec's waist pulling them impossibly close. "Yes... honeymoon. You and me. Just us..." And possibly really wonderful romantic possibilities to take their relationship to the next level should Alec want that. "Where would you want to go first with me, Alec?"

"If it was easy it wouldn't be worth having." There would be problems. Not just from his parents, but from the Clave but if he had Magnus, it'd be worth it. "I know you'll stay with me." For a moment, he thought of all the time he'd wasted with denials and trying to do what was safe instead of what his heart wanted. "I'm sorry I hurt you. I never meant for that to happen."

Returning that smile, he gently nipped at Magnus' lips. The elder always made him feel better, like there was more to him than he'd ever imagined, but now he felt lighter. As if they could face anything as long as they were together. "I want you to be mine."

Not just his hero, but the person he spent the rest of his life with... even if it was probably a little early to suggest that to Magnus.

As his boyfriend pulled him closer, Alec couldn't help thinking about the other possibilities for that practice honeymoon. His breath hitched as he pressed against Magnus, a faint flush warming his cheeks. Trying to push aside those thoughts was almost impossible when Magnus was purring and grinning at him like that. "I don't care where we go as long as we're alone and no one can interrupt."

"All the best things in life are worth fighting for. And you are the best thing in my life." Leaning down he touched their foreheads and closed his eyes. "I know you didn't mean it to hurt me. I know you're in a rough place with decisions that will make or break you. I'm selfishly happy that the decisions you made were in my favor." That meant everything to him. In ways he didn't quite fully understand yet.

Smiling at the nip, he cradled his love's neck and drew him closer to kiss him again sweetly. "I'm always yours. For now and always." Suddenly the Herondale madness made sense. All the soul mate 'nonsense' he'd scoffed at and love songs made all the sense in the world. That was new.

"Alone and uninterrupted are definitely in the itinerary for our practice honeymoon." Part of him wished they were already gone so he could take this further than kisses under starlight. He wanted more, a consummation of their relationship... courage to take a step to permanence like marriage. "How soon do you think I can get you from your parents?" Losing his little brother... Magnus wouldn't forget that in his rush. He knew it had to hurt. Just like the loss of Ragnor left a gaping hole in his chest.
